TVLine’s 2012 in Review:

"Lea Michele says that although she’s not in the choir room with the rest of her castmates, she’s absolutely loving the show’s divide between New York and Lima. “Oh my God, I feel amazing. I am having the best time,” she says. “This is already my favorite year so far. I love being in the new locations; I love being on the new sets — they’re so gorgeous. I love working with Chris [Colfer] and Cory [Monteith] and Dean [Geyer] and Kate [Hudson]. It’s really amazing. I miss my Glee club, but I know [we’ll be together soon]. I’ve already read a script where we’re reunited."

"Rachel, like it or not, is really the core of the show,” Brennan says. “She’s sort of like the ultimate underdog and it felt weird to pull her out of that. She’s part of this continuous story. … You want to actually see, ‘What does that mean once you leave that womb?’ Rachel goes from being a big fish in a small pond to a very small fish in the biggest pond ever."

Glee’s Lea Michele Talks About Finn’s ‘Persistent’ New Rival: ‘Rachel Is One Lucky Girl!’

Glee‘s Finn, currently away at Army boot camp, may well be at risk of getting booted out of Rachel’s love life if he doesn’t march back into the picture, double time!

As previously reported, Fox’s musical comedy hadadded to the Season 4 mix South African-born Aussie Dean Geyer as Brody Weston, a heartthrob who will set his sights on Rachel, now a student at NYC’s NYADA.

“Rachel meets him at the school and they have a little moment and… it goes from there,” Geyer, who previously played Terra Nova security guard Mark Reynolds, tells TVLine.

Lea Michele tells me that while, in the scripts she has seen to date, things haven’t gotten hot ‘n’ heavy just yet between Rachel and school mate Brody, “He is definitely persistent!”

Getting to delve into a complicated triangle — one in which the deck is quite stacked against Rachel’s almost-husband Finn, who is AWOL at boot camp — has Michele especially excited for the season ahead, which already will feature a split narrative that will toggle ‘tween Lima and the Big Apple.

“That always works on these shows, to bring the characters together, pull them apart,” Michele notes. She then adds with a big smile and in a sing-songy voice: “Rachel is one lucky girl, lemme tell you!”

While Michele touts Geyer as an “awesome” new scene partner, the Glee newbie — who (sorry, girls) willnot be using his native accent as Brody — knows that he is stepping into a mine field when it comes to one passionate fan base.

“I’ve gotten a couple of tweets from Finn fans saying, ‘I hope you don’t come between Rachel and Finn,’ so I’m kind of stressing out,” he shares with a laugh. “There is obviously a massive fan base, so…. I don’t want to peeve any fans off. But you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

Rachel Berry Season 4

Ms. Berry has her hands full with a roommate from hell and a new admirer in Brody Weston (Dean Geyer) whom she meets — wait for it! — in the co-ed bathroom of her dorm, Michele says. “He’s definitely interested in her but I think that she is very hesitant because she doesn’t really know where things stand with Finn; she doesn’t want to make any moves before she knows where they stand and Brody’s not going to give up,” the actress tells THR of her new mentor — who has alreadyperformed on Broadway. “He’s like a cross between Jesse St. James and Finn.” Elsewhere, Rachel’s new roommate may not immediately be seen but she’ll most definitely be heard. “You see Rachel for the first time in her bed, covering her ears from the sex noises that her roommate is making and you never see the roommate — as of now — you can just hear her,” Michele says with a smile. “It’s going to be hilarious.”

As for Kate Hudson, Ian revealed to Access her unique character name – Cassandra July.

“Kate Hudson will play Cassandra July,” he laughed. “And she’s gonna be able to sing and dance. It’s going to be pretty awesome. She’ll be Rachel’s dance teacher at NYATA and it’s gonna be good.”

Asked about Kate’s new role in her storyline, Lea told Access she can’t wait.

“I’m super excited about that,” Lea said.

And the actress said you can expect to see Rachel in some spandex-esque fabric at the start of the coming season.

“I know I’m going to be in a leotard in the first like, five scenes of the show,” she smiled.

A Glee-otard, perhaps, Access asked.

“Well, no, just Rachel Berry in a leotard, so I’m gonna have to make sure it’s nice and comfortable,” she laughed

"There will be a lot of new faces joining the series in Season 4 — including a roommate for Rachel that nobody has met before as well as new East Coast friends for the ex-New Directions star."

Lea Michele on Rachel Season 4

“I think Rachel works best when she’s against all odds. She has to fight her way through something is when she rises to the top. Starting at the beginning of season four she’s very alone, but it’ll get her to a very great place.”

“We have a good idea of where Finn and Rachel are going. We want to see what it’s like for them to be a part for a while now. I think that’s the dynamic we’ve seen over the series where we pull them apart, put them back together, etc. They will always be involved with one another whether or not they’re dating. They’ll be in contact.”

Lea thinks it’ll be different being all apart for this upcoming season for the first time. “There were so many of us by the end. About 20 in the choir room. Now Rachel will be in one location, the other characters will be elsewhere. We won’t be shooting together as much but we can’t stay away from one another for long.”

“It’s really exciting. It’s a challenge I’m excited to take on. The fans will be excited to see Rachel in college. I think she won’t be alone for long – she’ll be surrounded by familiar faces soon.”

Rachel has a challenging dynamic with Kate Hudson, who stars in the first few episodes.

Lea and Naya have been campaigning for Rachel and Santana to go to school together, and “I really hope and think that will happen.”

On the wide range of music she sings for the show: “I know the first episode I’ll do classy and the next one I’ll be doing super pop. I love how in one episode I can sing a Broadway standard and then the next do Push It by Salt and Pepper.”
